As a wireless network research engineer at MITRE, you will work closely with others in a culture that encourages and values innovation, collaboration, mentoring, and continuous learning. While responding to these challenges, you will work with a team of highly skilled engineers in MITRE's Communications Network Engineering and Analysis Department, T861. You will have the opportunity to leverage and grow your wireless network research engineering knowledge and hands-on skills through exposure to aspects of wireless networking and communications that are unfamiliar to you, as well as by taking advantage of the many formal learning opportunities that MITRE provides, such as MITRE Institute classes, continuing education, tech talks and innovation exchanges, and more.Your specific duties will vary by project but will generally include performing research, design, analysis, hands-on prototyping, testing, experimentation and modelling and simulation to address complex questions regarding design, security, and performance of wireless networks that are faced by a variety of MITRE's customers. As the government's not-for-profit, trusted, unbiased advisor, MITRE performs advance wireless networking research that is very different from the type of standard, operational wireless networking support that is typically provided by DoD contractors. Examples of advanced wireless networking projects at MITRE include:Perform wireless engineering, analysis, modeling & simulation, and experimentationEvaluate the performance of MAC and higher layers of wireless networksPropose and contribute to R initiativesParticipate in commercial and government wireless working groups to standardize secure approaches to implementing wireless solutionsThis position will require you to make use of your fundamental understanding of and interest in wireless networking protocols and principles. Specific duties may include one or more of the following:Develop and program prototypes in C/C++, Java, or PythonBuild lab-based testbeds and conduct proof-of-concept experimentsEvaluate the performance of operational wireless networks using various measurement tools and testing equipmentWork with Linux and Windows development toolsDesign and test apps on Apple and Android smartphonesTo be clear, this is not the type of wireless networking engineering position that involves administering, configuring, managing, updating, operating, troubleshooting, or otherwise maintaining a production network to support the work of other analysts.Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in the fields listed below, or equivalent knowledge and skills.
