The VoIP team in WhatsApp provides the foundation for video call experiences. We are developing technology to improve video communication experiences to help bring people together at any time. We are investing heavily in our VoIP services, media stack, audio and video codecs, networking protocols, security and privacy, and end-to-end reliability and quality experiences across a rich and diverse set of platforms.

For this particular role, we are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join the WhatsApp team in Menlo Park. As a WhatsApp VoIP Technical Program Manager, you will redefine state-of-the-art while working with some of the world's most talented Engineers. New hires in this role go through engineering bootcamp and are able to champion building an overarching understanding of the whole system architecture. As peer to Engineering Leads, Managers and Product Managers, you contribute to planning and strategy, execution, evangelism, negotiating cross-team dependencies, representing the customer our partner teams, and are expected to shine as a valuable addition to the team while helping make VoIP calls reliable over varying devices and networking conditions including high packet loss and high latency.

Technical Program Manager, Whatsapp VOIP Responsibilities

Build strong and aligned program teams to efficiently deliver on shared goals.

Collaborate with Engineering and business owners to define program requirements, set priorities, and establish scope which includes defining the roadmap and long-term strategy of the teams that you are partnering with.

Manage cross functional dependencies, risks, and changes effectively by optimizing scope, schedule, and resources accordingly.

Develop and own communication plans to effectively and proactively communicate program status, issues, and risks to stakeholders.

Partner with cross functional teams to drive technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and post implementation phases.

Define and track key metrics and key quality and performance indicators and drive cross functional execution of program deliverables.

Proactively identify and analyze complex, long-term, critical infrastructure problems with engineering leaders and stakeholders.

Influence product decisions to align with higher company initiatives.

Drive internal and external process improvements across multiple teams and functions including reducing the manual efforts through automation.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

7+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience.

Experience delivering tech programs or products from inception to delivery.

Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope.

Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership.

Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products.

Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience.

Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems.

Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. degree with focus in VoIP, Networking, or Multimedia technologies.

10+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or similar experience, in addition to project/program management experience.

Understanding of various network protocols used in Real Time applications and how to interpret observations in field to make improvements to networking components.

Web or Internet start-up environment and technical infrastructure management experience.

Experience motivating and focusing a large collaboration to reach challenging goals.

Interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team.
