The SRE Lead - Infrastructure Automation is a people leadership/manager position responsible for building an SRE practice around a single technical service. The ideal candidate will lead a transformation effort of an existing Agile DevOps team into a more formalized SRE methodology. The two-pizza team will be comprised of a mix of customer-facing operations and automation platform engineers. The SRE Lead will report to the lead of the Cloud Automation Platform organization. The service provides infrastructure as a service to our internal technical partners.


  • 24/7 Production accountability for a single service stack
  • Lead and coach your team to be a metric-driven, cross-functional SRE team
  • Foster a blameless culture for service improvement
  • Develop and publish SLIs and SLOs for service in partnership with Product Owners
  • Lead effort to develop a self-driving operations model void of manual inputs - automate everything
  • Partner with Data & Analytics team to develop an SLI dashboard with full monitoring and telemetry of the service stack
  • Develop and maintain a steady and actionable service improvement backlog for team
  • Partner with Solution Architecture and Development Team to provide service improvement input for future releases
  • Participate in daily standups with your team as well as regular scrum of scrums across the full-service stack
  • Manage SOW contract renewals and staffing decisions for your team
  • Ability to manage a global team that is currently 100% remote due to pandemic
  • Meet with senior leadership regularly to report on SLO performance and service improvement plans per sprint
  • Partner with Development team to build stable release pipelines for DEV-UAT-PROD releases
  • Manage runbook and technical service documentation for service


  • Technical leadership experience in a formal SRE environment preferred
  • Prior management experience not as important as someone who has direct experience working with or developing SRE principles
  • 7+ years of infrastructure operations or leadership in a VMware virtualization environment preferred
  • 5+ years of Development, DevOps, or Agile Ops experience or leadership
  • 5+ years of infrastructure automation experience or leadership preferred
  • Direct experience with VMware vRealize Suite of products preferred
  • Experience working in an Agile SDLC environment
  • Strong people or technical leader with proven ability to coach others
  • Strong communication skills: verbal and written
  • Technical architecture experience a plus

Preferred Technical Background:

  • Virtualization and container operations: VMware vSphere, Kubernetes, OpenShift
  • Experience with developing or maintaining release pipelines: Jenkins, Artifactory, CodeStream, BitBucket, Selenium
  • Configuration Management: Ansible, Chef
  • Infrastructure of Code experience: Terraform
  • Scripting or coding experience: JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, Spring Boot, NodeJS, Java, Go, .NET, JBPM
  • Monitoring & analytics experience: AppDynamics, Splunk, PowerBI
  • VMware vRealize Automation, vRealize Operations, vRealize Log Insight
  • System administration experience: Linux and Windows
  • Networking experience: NSX, software defined networking knowledge, LBaaS
  • Capacity Management experience


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
