Support VMware's mission to build strong relationships with Telecommunications Service Provider Operators, MSOs & partner ISVs and promote VMware's Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Telco and Edge Cloud, Containers, Automation, Orchestration, and Software Defined Networking (SDN) vision for platform and service evolution.
Design innovative Core to Edge network solutions for Telecommunications Services Providers. Examples include, 5G Core, 5G Edge, Private 5G, MEC, VoLTE, IMS, EPC, Edge Caching, CDN, and associated Orchestration and Automation tools.
Support and lead pre-sales activities as the subject matter expert (SME) on Telco and Edge Could solution design, architectures, platforms and technologies, including strengths and weaknesses of partner community.
Understand the similarities and differences of Wireless vs Wireline and Cable customers, and be able to design, explain and apply relevant Telco and Edge Cloud technology solutions for all.
Act as the de facto VMware technical expert in North America on VMware's Telco and Edge Cloud Solutions, Telecommunications industry and partner trends, and be able to communicate at the most-technical level while also possessing excellent executive communication skills.
Increase customer executive awareness and ongoing visibility into VMware's Telco and Edge Cloud vision, strategy and execution plan.
Ensure customer and partner success by integrating and deploying applications, software and services on VMware's virtualization and cloud platforms.
Support the Telco and Edge Cloud Business Group new solutions development process by managing customer and market requirements.
Serve as a thought leader within VMware and the industry on trends and architectural best practices.
Evangelize and promote VMware's vision, platform capabilities and technologies to customers, partners and industry bodies such as ETSI, TMF, Openstack Community, Cloud Native Foundation, OPNFV, OpenO and MEF. Assist industry groups where appropriate to create reference designs, standards and best practices that align with VMware products and strategy.
Enable VMware field sales teams to become more effective, efficient and productive in selling and evangelizing NFV and SDN solutions, products and technologies.
Substantial travel within the US and Canada, >50% can be expected.
Location is open to anywhere within the US.
Responsibilities:
Evangelize VMware's vision, product and technology capabilities to the Telecommunications Service Provider market and strategic Service Provider customers within the US and Canada.
Develop and manage CTO and technical decision maker level relationships as a trusted advisor on VMware's Telco and Edge Cloud vision, solutions, platform capabilities and technologies.
Present at strategic customer briefings on VMware Telco and Edge Cloud solutions, platform and technologies.
Lead and support pre-sales Telco and Edge Cloud customer solution design activities. Architect and document innovative new solutions in line with platform and technology capabilities.
Identify the proper technologies that best fit the customer's needs and be able to compare and contrast Containers and VM's, and strengths and weaknesses of each depending on the use case.
Manage, build, deliver and document customer proof-of-concept (PoC), platform and/or technology demos and experimental field trials associated with sales opportunities, industry events and field enablement activities.
Assist field sales teams with defining RFI/RFP response strategies and providing input related to solution, product and technology questions.
Define, create and deliver technical sales enablement content to field sales teams and partner ISVs.
Work directly with customers on new service creation opportunities and gather input and technical requirements to create and design innovative new solutions with VMware platform and partner technologies.
Work closely with the Telco and Edge Cloud Business Group Solutions Development team to document and submit requirements for product and solution development.
Drive the creation of technical design, architecture and best practice related collateral for field sales consumption. Create and deliver new technical sales tools that increase technical sales process efficiency and productivity.
Actively contribute to Telecommunications and Cable/MSO related industry forums for the purpose of creating and defining new technology. Promote VMware's solution, product & technology value and maintain credibility.
Speak at high profile Telecommunications and Cable related industry events.
Requirements:
10+ years experience working with Telecommunications Service Providers in a pre-sales or architecture consulting role.
5+ years experience designing large scale Mobile and/or Wireline telecommunications network and cloud architectures.
3+ years experience designing complex multi-vendor, multi-platform solutions.
3+ years experience designing and deploying VMware virtualization, cloud management and cloud operations products & technologies (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and vRealize Operations - vCloud Director and VMware Integrated Openstack preferred).
Technical understanding of Kubernetes and Containers, including deployment models, management and orchestration.
Experience designing and deploying Openstack cloud environments - preferred.
Technical certifications related to networking, cloud and/or security - preferred.
5+ years experience participating in all aspects of large-scale Distributed Systems Architecture projects including ideation, identification, planning, requirements, design, development, testing, implementation and cost estimation.
Must be able to manage complex customer facing technical projects.
Ability to build and manage executive and technical decision maker relationships.
Deep knowledge on industry business & technical trends and competitive dynamics.
Demonstrated ability to present on complex technical topics to customer executives and at telecommunications industry events and forums.
Demonstrated ability to build high value technical collateral such as technology whitepapers and technical design guides.
Recognition and technical credibility in the telecommunications community
Graduate degree in a technical discipline - preferred.
