We are the Alexa Mobile Assistant team. Our vision is to enable customers to take Alexa with them as they go about their day. Our mission is to make Alexa the best mobile assistant on iOS and Android.
We own the customer experience of the Alexa Mobile Assistant on iOS and Android. We build the visual multi-modal responses cards in the Alexa mobile app for common queries such as Alexa, what's the weather? and Alexa, what's on my shopping list? . We own the big, blue Alexa button in the Alexa mobile app, the in-app hands free Alexa wake-word and the visual scrim that lets customers know Alexa is listening. We are responsible for the first-time user experience when customers are prompted to grant Alexa permissions and feature education cards that help to drive engagement with the Alexa mobile assistant. Our recent team accomplishments include improving the Alexa app store rating to 4 stars, reducing the app start up time, and shipping the Echo Auto and Day1 Edition Bluetooth accessories. Our team takes the lead on engineering excellence initiatives within the Alexa mobile organization and we own internal open source test tools and continuous integration systems. We drive performance improvements to the fluidity and responsiveness of the UI that indicates Alexa is listening.
We work across teams to ensure customers are able to use all of the Alexa features they love when they are on the go. We drive the initiative to reach full feature parity with Echo devices including launching mobile alarms ( Alexa, set an alarm for eight AM ) and location-based reminders ( Alexa, remind me to take out the trash when I get home ). To be a truly great mobile assistant Alexa must provide customers with a graphic, touch-forward user interface in addition to Alexa's current voice user interface. A major, team goal for 2020 will be to launch the Alexa Presentation Language (APL) in the Alexa app on iOS and Android to empower Alexa skills developers to build interactive visual user experience for our Alexa mobile customers.
SDEs on the Alexa Mobile Domains team build customer-facing user experiences in Swift on iOS, Java on Android, TypeScript on ReactNative and Python on AWS. A successful engineer will consistently demonstrate Amazon leadership principles. We obsess over the customer experience of the features we build (Customer Obsession). We solve problems across the full technology stack from Back End Alexa skills, massive data bases, and complex mobile operating systems (Dive Deep). We hold an exceptionally high bar for engineering excellence (Insist on the Highest Standards). We work collaboratively to find simple and inventive solutions to complex problems (Invent and Simplify). We are constantly experimenting and looking to move quickly and take calculated risks (Bias for Action). We will work to make Alexa more useful on iOS and Android using machine learning, shortcuts, widgets, wearables and texting (Think Big). Prior industry experience with mobile development is preferred but not required (Learn and Be Curious).
