A National Utility Company is seeking a Sr. Telecommunications Technician is to provide installation and maintenance support for the Companys telecommunications infrastructure including single mode fiber optic cable, microwave radio systems, transport routers, and DC systems. This equipment is located in the Companys Virginia and North Carolina service territories. In addition to normal daily work, this position will be part of a team that provides 24x7 field support, at the direction of the Network Operations Center (NOC), for communication outages.
Experience in network and telecommunications applications is required.
Must be knowledgeable in all areas of telecommunications and possesses the ability to work on complex telecommunications systems and equipment.
Must be able to analyze trouble reports and perform maintenance or provide recommendations for problem correction of telecommunications equipment.
Possess the ability to maintain and update telecommunications equipment, circuit prints, drawings and records.
Able to answer peer questions. T

Must possess skills to coordinate and plan telecommunication work with various departments, internal and external customer groups.

Desired Experience and Skills
Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with single mode fiber optic cable, fusion splicing, and installation best practices.
Skilled in single mode fiber testing with a light meter and/or OTDR.
Skilled in the installation of telecommunications equipment including running power leads, installing fuse panels, cable management, fiber management, cable terminations, and grounding.
Skilled in the support, installation, and testing of microwave radio systems, elliptical waveguide, microwave antennas, and the necessary grounding for each component.
Knowledge of grounding practices for communication buildings and antenna support structures.
Basic understanding of the components that make up a tower lighting system.
Working knowledge of 48v DC power systems is required.
Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with channel banks/multiplexers.
Basic understanding of data networking.
Must be safety conscious and detailed oriented.
Effective computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products to include Visio, Power Point, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Demonstrate technical documentation skills as needed.
Small project leadership experience.
Good oral and written communication skills.
