About the Job Senior Software Engineer - Android How this role will make an impact: The Senior Software Engineer - Android will design and develop mobile software as a member of a scrum team on a Scaled Agile Release Train (SAFe team). The role includes Android design, development, unit and performance testing As part of the Digital/Services Engineering team, this person will collaborate with Product Managers, Business Partners, UX/UI Designers, Architects and other Engineers to produce high quality solutions to the many challenges our business and retail stores face At every level, our IT associates are empowered to come up with innovative ideas that have strategic impacts to the business Your goals and responsibilities will include: Develop and unit test Mobile Applications in support of PetSmart business Analyze business requirements, provide development estimates and feedback and determine proper implementation Contribute to the design, architecture, and development of existing and future mobile applications that are elegant, efficient, secure, highly available, and maintainable Work with other engineering, QA, marketing and product teams to design and implement quality software solutions Work with Android and iOS Engineers to architect solutions having similar structures and call sequences between both platforms Champion coding standards, maintain appropriate levels of tech debt and implementation of new technologies Conduct and participate in peer reviews of team members' code Research and recommend new mobile tools and emerging trends in Android development Who you are: At least 5 years of native Android development, with experience building and deploying apps to the Play store Strong knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android and how to deal with different screen sizes Advanced Java for Android and Kotlin programming experience Architectural design experience with MVP, MVC, MVVM Experience with calling back-end services via RESTful and GraphQL APIs from Android Strong knowledge of Material Design Guidelines Experience with threading and performance tuning Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications Familiarity with continuous integration Proficient understanding of source control and build tools, such as Git and Jenkins Experience developing in an Agile environment, and familiarity with Agile tracking tools such as Jira, Trello, Pivotal Tracker, etc. Bright, driven, enjoy working with the latest technologies and you have the right blend of business acumen, technical and customer-facing skills Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical business partners Ability to understand business requirements and the underlying complex technical dependencies Ability to address short-term tactical requirements without losing sight of the longer-range strategic direction Self-motivated and discipline to meet deadlines with speed, accuracy and professional attitude Collaborative and a team player BS / BA degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education or experience Preferred skills: Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform, Jetpack Compose and Jetpack Navigation Previous experience working in a SAFe Agile Release Train Previous or current iOS experience, and/or the willingness to learn native iOS development Drive to learn and flex into new languages, platforms and technologies Experience with integrating React Native code into Native applications Familiarity with Realm, SQLite, mobile payments, wearables, passbook, location aware integrations and beacon technologies Experience with testing libraries such as JUnit and Espresso An understanding of the nuances between mobile platforms and best practices for resolving architectural differences Background in developing and supporting software with a massive user base About the Culture Our home office offers outstanding amenities in a fun and rewarding workplace including: Pet friendly environment, bring your pets to work!
