Our client in Boulder, CO is building a new, highly technical, data science and business intelligence team. This position is responsible for:

  • With general supervision, manages, monitors, and supports the client's physical-layer network communications infrastructure
  • Participates in and leads design and planning efforts in support of expansion of the clients network infrastructure.
  • Evaluates network cabling installation, maintenance, and vendor support services and makes recommendations for these vendor services consistent with the organization's short- and long-term objectives.
  • Coordinates activities between all affected areas to ensure success without unnecessary system outages to Innovation & Technology (IT) customers.
  • Performs or facilitates the troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of network cabling related problems.
  • Plans for future network and communication solutions to coincide with the long-term priorities, goals, and needs of the client.
  • Provides technical assistance to IT staff and performs related duties as required.


  • Enthusiasm for furthering the role of technology in the effective delivery of important local government services.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field plus five or more years of recent experience as a network physical plant engineer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, managing, and supporting outside plant fiber optic and conduit networks including design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, managing, and supporting inside plant structured cabling network systems.
  • Experience with the design of fiber optic cable splice plans and diagrams.
  • Experience with using geographic information systems (GIS) for the planning and design of outside plant infrastructures in relation to other geographic features, utilities, and facilities.
  • High degree of proficiency in the creation of detailed diagrams with applications like Visio.
  • Understanding of the role and function of FMS in fiber infrastructure management.
  • Aptitudes for creative problem-solving, technical troubleshooting, independent learning, integrating diverse requirements, organization, attention to detail, flexibility, collaboration, customer service, management of numerous competing tasks and priorities, meeting deadlines, and working well under pressure without supervision.
  • Ability to solicit information from customers and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Excellent, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history, valid driver's license, motor vehicle record, and credit history. Use of personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed).
