Network Infrastructure Engineer

LOCATION: Administrative Office

BARGAINING UNIT / LEVEL: Professional Bargaining Unit - Level 10

SALARY RANGE: $81,613 - $90,130 annually DOQ

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Chief of Information Technology, this position provides long-term architectural strategy and operational director for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining the Metroparks information technology infrastructure. This includes the network systems, telecommunications systems and application servers for a multi-site environment. The position will also operate and maintain network application severs as well as maintain security of the Metroparks computer and information assets. The position requires travel to all 13 Metroparks and support of day to day operations.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or network management & administration or a related field. Applicants with 8 or more years of related service will be given credit toward meeting the minimum educational requirements and will be considered for the position.
  • Fortinet, Cisco, and HP Network Certificate & Microsoft certifications preferred.
  • Five years of related experience with a network engineering focus.
  • Experience with network security, LAN and WAN.
  • Experience in network designing, installing, deploying, and supporting network, servers and SAN storage.
  • Experience working with optical technologies and routing protocols.
  • Experience in network management supporting personal computers, local area networks and wide area networks with over 200 nodes.
  • Experience in Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
  • Knowledge and experience in Fortinet Firewalls, Enterprise HP Network Switches, HP Servers, and Nimble Storage SAN.
  • Knowledge of typical office applications including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of computer network hardware, software and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and network design.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.

  • Ability to provide detailed information for hardware and software selection.
  • Ability to learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
  • Ability to plan, manage and implement highly complex hardware and software systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical users.
  • May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
  • Ability to perform essential duties.
