Development Manager (Big Data/BI/ETL/Data Warehouse)

Bristol - (fully remote until new year)

Leading Bristol based financial services business have a requirement for an experienced Development Manager to join on an initial 6 month contract.

Managing a team of 5 plus offshore/3rd party team you will be responsible for leading, planning, coordinating, and managing ETL/Data warehouse/Big Data (inc. data lake)/BI developments across multiple projects.


  • Effective management and leadership of the development team including coaching, motivating and setting appropriately delivery objectives in line with agreed project milestones.
  • Responsible and accountable for driving forward developments including, tracking, work stream status updates, sizing/estimating work, dependency management between work strands, escalation management and status reporting into project management.
  • Managing all staff related matters, performance, recruitment an on-boarding, development budget management, risk management, knowledge transfers, contingency planning.
  • Enhance development life cycle and associated processes and documentation. Put appropriate controls in place to ensure adherence to the development life cycle and standards.
  • Responsible for solution hand over into BAU/Run, ensuring full solution automation and controls are developed to internal and audit team standards.
  • Identify, manage and control risks and Issues associated with developments. Recommend appropriate ways of managing risks identified within proposed solutions.
  • Champion process improvements, embedding new ways of working focus on driving up quality of deliverables and the way we operate.
  • Manage release process of developments into Production domain


  • Proven track record and extensive experience in managing technical teams in an ETL, Data Warehousing/Big Data/BI environment delivering highly complex technical solution environments.
  • Strong influential leader
  • Exceptionally well organised and self-motivated.
  • Strong influencing and consultancy skills.
  • Ability to manage, develop and inspire direct reports.
  • Broad knowledge of development methodologies (Agile/Waterfall) and how to apply them
  • Excellent knowledge of software solution development life cycles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
