OverviewChevron is seeking an electrical engineering major (preferred) as an intern to support their RF/wireless requirements as a primary function. The position will be based in Bakersfield, CA in the summer of 2022. We would prefer a junior or a senior (anticipated graduation between May 2022 and June 2023).Minimum Requirements (Public)A successful candidate will be able to show some level of radio-based communication focus by educational path (engineering electives such as electromagnetics, antenna theory, radio wave propagation, and/or communication systems), amateur radio, or other outside interest.Opportunity DescriptionThe candidate will be expected to support some level of RF communication solution at Chevron for Oilfield connectivity. The following is a non-exclusive list of the primary RF activities with which the intern may learn/become involved with, dependent upon his/her aptitude and the business need:Wireless systems using Wimax,multipoint, LTE, and/or 3G protocolsIndoor and/or outdoor DAS/WiFi AP layout designs including site surveysTwo-way radio systems using Analog, DMR, or P25 standardsScada and process control communication systemsPropagation coverage studies using a major RF propagation toolsLink budget creation and analysisPoint-to-Point microwave systems and networksSatellite system integrationOther telecom solutions in a modern plant environment, including tower infrastructureCommunication system document and drawing creation/review (Visio and/or Autocad)The following secondary skillsets are also valuable should the candidate have these demonstrated:IP Routing/switching (network provisioning or troubleshooting) Network security and firewall provisioning IT system performance monitoring and/or RF optimization WAN optimization devices for satellite networks GIS Mapping tool proficiency such as ArcGIS or MapinfoCultureChevron is committed to worker safety, including a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
